The Wisconsin State Fair is adding more than 80 new food and beverage options to its menu for 2016, from bacon popcorn balls to Door County surf-and-turf on a stick.
Among the new eats at this year’s fair are more than a half-dozen foods on a stick, at least six new deep-fried treats and one with a Packers flavor: the 50-Yarder On-a-Stick: two double chocolate chip cookies baked in the shape of footballs and topped with green and gold frosting (for the laces), filled with cake batter cookie dough ice cream and served on a stick.
Another quintessential Wisconsin flavor that’s new to the State Fair menu this year actually made its debut at Summerfest: the Deep-Fried Ol’ Fashioned, with orange pound cake with maraschino cherry and brandy-flavored cream cheese, deep-fried and topped with whipped cream flavored with bitters.
It’s also one of eight finalists for this year’s Sporkies food competition; judging will take place Aug. 10.
