Milwaukee’s Safe House Restaurant eyes Chicago location

Milwaukee’s world-famous spy-themed restaurant and bar, where entering requires a password, recently underwent renovations, but maintains the original vision of Chief Agent Oh-Oh-7. Owned by Marcus Corporation now, an application has been put in for a liquor license and a building permit at 60 E. Ontario St. in Chicago.

Biz Times Milwaukee reports:

Milwaukee-based Marcus Corp. has applied for a liquor license and a building permit at 60 E. Ontario St. in Chicago, an entrance to the company’s AC Hotel Chicago Downtown, where it is planning to open a second Safe House Restaurant and Bar.

Kevin Gallagher, operations project manager at Marcus Hotels and Resorts, is listed as the owner on the building permit, which calls for the interior build out of a restaurant on the lower level of the existing hotel with a standalone entrance at street level.

International Exports Chicago LLC applied for the liquor license on Oct. 11, and said it will do business under the name Safe House.

Tri-North Builders Inc., of Waukesha, is the general contractor on the project.

Marcus officials would not comment on the project.

“I cannot confirm the location of our next Safe House at this time,” said Christine Williams, a spokesperson for Marcus Hotels.
