Wisconsin launches new program to find skilled aborists

Wisconsin’s tree service industry needs a few good skilled workers.

Recently the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, in partnership with the Wisconsin Arborist Association launched a program that is a combination of on-the-job-training and classroom time to obtain skilled workers.

The first-of-its-kind in the nation, provides education and training on plant health care and tree care. Instruction is given though the Wisconsin Technical College System at Milwaukee Area Technical College.

The program, Wisconsin Arborist Registered Apprenticeship Program runs three-and-a-half years, and needs to be sponsored through an employer. The time commitment is 40 hours a week.
