The Milwaukee Ballet Company plans to build a 40,000 square foot, one-story building in the Historic Third Ward. The new site would be used for teaching and some performances.

Last week, the Italian Community Center located at 631 E. Chicago St., voted to sell a 1.8-acre parcel in the southwestern corner of their parking lot for $2.4 million to the Ballet.

The Ballets current headquarters at at 504 W. National Ave., in the Walkers Point neighborhood.

Alderman of the Historic Third Ward site, Bob Bauman told Biz Times, “To me, they are under-developing the site for the most dynamic neighborhood in Milwaukee.” Bauman is a member of the Third Ward’s Architectural Review Board, which the Ballet will have to present plans to before moving the project forward.
