BREAKING: House barely passes bill to replace Obamacare

With a vote of 217-213, House Republicans made good on their campaign promise to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports,  “This bill delivers on the promises that we have made to the American people,” said House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., at the end of an impassioned floor debate. “A lot of us have been waiting seven years to cast this vote … (and) to rescue people from this collapsing law.”

Ryan continued to use Trump talking points to defend the vote. Republicans have been saying the GOP plan, the American Health Care Act, would give more power to states to make decisions.

Democrats have attacked Ryan and Trump over the plan citing that it would raise healthcare costs and premiums.

“Trumpcare eviscerates essential health benefits,” such as maternity care and prescription drug coverage, said House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., “… and guts protections for people with pre-existing conditions.”
