Pope Francis announced Thursday in Rome that he would be advancing the sainthood causes of Wisconsin-born Capuchin Father Solanus Casey, and several others.

In his decree, Pope Francis said Father Casey (1870-1957), will be beatified, which is the official declaration that he lived a holy life, and one-step closer to sainthood.

A part of his life and where he got his start, was right here in Wisconsin.

Father Casey was born in Western Wisconsin, in Oak Grove and got his start at St. Francis Church in Milwaukee.
